Anna Haltrecht
, G.C.F.P. teaches the Sounder Sleep System developed by
Michael Krugman. Here she is practicing with her favourite coach
"Snowball".
Some people have
no difficulty getting to sleep, and sleep soundly through the night
however statistics show that one
in every seven Canadians suffer from
insomnia and has
trouble going to sleep or staying asleep "most or all of the time”.
This is often because their natural
biological rhythms are disturbed by artificial environments and they
lose their natural sleep/wake rhythm. The Sounder Sleep System helps
to restore this key biological rhythm using movement and breath.
In the Sounder Sleep System,
you focus on simple, lulling physical movements that are
synchronized with your breath. Because physical movements are
immediately present to the senses, you become deeply absorbed in the
moment, in each movement, in each breath. The state between awake
and sleep can then become a time of deep introspection and a rich
source of insight. Your body relaxes and your mind becomes very
still, and if you need sleep, then you will fall asleep.
The system has two
components: daytime relaxation techniques, called Day Tamers and
nighttime sleep inducing movements, called Mini-Moves. The Day
Tamers reduce hyperarousal and the Mini-Moves lull you to sleep and
get you back to sleep on awakening.
Sounder Sleep’s founder,
Michael Krugman. is a Feldenkrais Practitioner and a life-long
student of traditional methods of self-healing. He wrote the book,
The Insomnia Solution, which details this remarkably simple,
yet effective system.
